Steve Smith breaking down several times in the press conference on Thursday marked one of the saddest days in the cricketing history. All the current and former cricketers felt for the Aussie captain who has been stripped of the role now and believed that he will come back stronger next year after serving the ban imposed on him by Cricket Australia (CA). However, a popular Bollywood actor has now come out in support of Smith and urged the fans to forgive him for the mistake.
The Australian cricket board came down hard at the trio of Smith, Cameron Bancroft and David Warner who were involved in the ball-tampering scandal. While the captain and the vice-captain were banned for a period of 1 year, Bancroft was banned for nine months. Even the coach Darren Lehmann has resigned from the position and will step down after the fourth Test match against South Africa. Moreover, Warner will never be considered for the captaincy in future.
Who is the actor?
Popular Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan has come out in support of Steve Smith after watching his emotional press conference after arriving at the Sydney airport on Thursday. He took to Twitter to express himself and felt that the cricketer will come out as a better sportsman out of this ordeal. He also urged the fans to forgive him for his mistake and believed Smith doesn’t deserve the treatment he is getting right now.
“Watching #stevensmith apologise and look broken is very sad. I’m sure the fans will forgive him . He looks beyond remorseful I hope and pray he will come out of this ordeal a better cricketer. The mental the emotional trauma I’m sure is bigger then Any ban,” Dhawan tweeted.
Varun Dhawan is one of the performers in the opening ceremony of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and reportedly is also the highest paid of the lot.
