The first round of the new Ranji Trophy season is already creating records as Himachal Pradesh opener Prashant Chopra recording the first triple ton of this edition of the tournament. Prashant recorded his best of 338 on his 25th birthday resuming at 271* that he had amassed on the opening day against the Punjab team.
Here we look at all the stats and records created by Prashant Chopra during his 338-run innings.
3 – He became only the third player in first-class cricket to complete a triple century on their birthday. Chopra, who was born on October 7th, 1992, turned 25 on Saturday.

44 – Number of fours Prashant hit during this innings. However, the record for most fours hit in a Ranji Trophy innings or by an Indian in an FC game is by Kedar Jadhav in 2012/13 where he hit 54 fours during his 327. Two other Indians who hit 50+ fours in an innings are VVS Laxman (52 during his 353) and Sanjay Manjrekar (50 during his 377).
271 – His 271 runs on the day one of this game is the 2nd most runs in a single day in Ranji Trophy. BB Nimbalkar scored 277 runs on the 2nd day of a Ranji game in 1948/49 in which he scored the record 443*.
271 – The 271 runs Prashant scored on the first day are the most by any player on the opening day of a first-class game in Indian cricket. He broke the record held by S Wazir Ali, who scored unbeaten 268 in 1935 for Indian University Occasionals against Viceroy’s XI.
338 – Prashant Chopra became the first player to score a triple century for Himachal Pradesh in first-class cricket. He equalled the record held by Rajeev Nayyar when he scored 271 on day one. His 338 is now the 10th highest individual score in Ranji Trophy. Prashant came close to Nayyar’s record during his 237-run knock last season against Haryana.

338 – Prashant’s 338-run knock is also the highest individual score in an FC game against Punjab. Gujarat’s Priyank Panchal scored 314* while Baroda’s Deepak Hooda scored 293* during the last Ranji season.
