Predicting the positions of 2019 World Cup teams in the 2020 T20 World Cup

The World Cup final this year was a classic example of error margins diminishing further and people cannot wait for the next ICC tournament to begin, which happens in Australia next October and November.

With stalwarts like AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla quitting the game and Dale Steyn nearly reaching the exit doors, South Africa have reached the very daunting transition period which in the past has troubled many teams. They clearly are short of confidence at this point and are not in contention to anything extravagant next year.

Quinton de Kock has been recently appointed as the T20I skipper, which is a clear indication that the side wants to think ahead of Faf du Plessis. He currently has an assembly of young and undernourished players, who could or could not turn up big when the tournament begins. There are too many conjectures being made, none sound positive to a Protea ear.

Yet, there’s great quality in individuals like Kagiso Rabada, Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen, who will be shouldering the majority of the responsibility. Their progress depends pretty heavily on the performance of these three or maybe another floater here and there, but their chances of qualifying to the semifinals look grim.
