4. West Indies (Group stage)
Defending champions West Indies seem to have lost their aura in the last few months. With Chris Gayle departing, it doesn’t get any more easy for them with fresh and young blood taking over in the batting department. There’s too much exuberance in the team but as it stands, it doesn’t seem like they’re using their assets efficiently.
Talented players like Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran and Shai Hope do promise a lot, but will they be able to cope with the tournament’s pressure could be a big question. The growth of Sheldon Cottrell is another huge bonus for the team, but pretty big shadows surround over their chances of reaching the knockouts.
The only team in this tournament’s history to have won it twice, there’s no doubt about the quality they possess but newly-minted skipper Kieron Pollard will find it pretty challenging to keep up with the quality of the other semifinal contenders.
