With a win over the home side Delhi Daredevils, Ravi Chandran Ashwin led Kings XI Punjab has piped the Chennai Super Kings from the top of the table. The low scoring match saw the fight till the last ball of the match with hosts needing a 6 to seal the game. However, 17-year-old Afghanistan spinner Muzeeb Ur Rahman kept his cool and denied Shreyas Iyyer the last ball maximum to win the match for his side.
Batting first, after winning the toss, Punjab looked in trouble at the end of the innings with just 142 runs on the board. Delhi skipper rotated his bowlers well, not allowing the Punjab batsman to go all gun blazing. Daredevils had a number of changes in the side with U19 World Cup winning skipper Prithvi Shaw, Avesh Khan, Dan Christian and Liam Plunkett getting a match while Ashwin surprised everyone when he announced that Chris Gayle will be missing out due to a small injury which meant that David Miller was back in the side.
Good bowling from Daredevils kept the Punjab batters under check
Aaron Finch was drafted at the top of the order to open the innings with inform KL Rahul. 21-year-old Avesh Khan made an instant impact when he sent Finch back to the pavilion. Rahul started well but could not carry on and became the victim of Liam Plunkett.
Almost all the other Punjab batsmen got a start but failed to convert them into a big one with Daredevils bowler’s bowling good line and length. 143 run was all they could manage and the owner Preity Zinta for sure would’ve thought that the score was a below par.
However, after the game, opener Aaron Finch took to Instagram where he posted a picture of himself along with the owner Zinta with a caption which read, “Amazing win, Zinta is a very happy boss.” The way Punjab bowlers halted the run chase of the visitors, why wouldn’t she be happy.
