Mumbai batsman Prithvi Shaw had a brilliant start to his Test career as he hit a century in 99 balls against West Indies in 2018 and then hit another fifty in the second Test to establish himself as a talented batsman. However, an injury in Australia during a practice game ruled him out of the Test series and since then, he has struggled to get back into the team.

He had a good IPL 2019 for Delhi Daredevils and was in contention for the Test series against West Indies, but on July 30, was handed a back-dated eight-month suspension by the Board of Control for Cricket in India for “inadvertently” consuming a cough syrup that contained the prohibited substance terbutaline. He is gearing up for his comeback into the domestic scene with the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Mumbai.

On November 9, 2019, Shaw celebrated his 20th birthday and shared a short video of himself practicing in nets as he prepares to get back to smashing the bowlers all around the park in the domestic T20 competition. “I turn 20 today. I assure it will be Prithvi Shaw 2.0 going forward. Thank u for all the good wishes & support. Will be back in action soon,” Prithvi posted a video with the aforementioned caption.

Meanwhile, Milind Rege, Mumbai’s selector confirmed that Shaw will be considered for selection as soon as his ban ends on November 16. “I can’t make any commitment to whether he will be back, but we will certainly discuss his selection. Shaw’s class is there, you see He is a dynamic young batsman. So that will weigh heavily in his favor because he has scored runs for Mumbai in the last one-and-a-half years and he also did well in Test cricket till he went to Australia. There has been a gap. So he will again have to start once again,” Rege was quoted as saying in an interview with ESPNCricinfo.

Shaw in two Tests has made 237 runs with one century and one fifty, while in 17 FC matches has scored 1767 runs at an average of 60.93 with 8 tons and 8 fifties to his name. He also had 1014 runs in 25 List A matches with three tons and the best score of 188.
