Prithvi Shaw becomes the youngest centurion in a Duleep Trophy final

The young sensation Prithvi Shaw, who rewrote record books with a century on his debut in the Ranji Trophy semi-final in 2016/17, started the 2017/18 season with a bang. The 17-year-old struck a century for India Blue in the Duleep Trophy final. The Mumbai batsman, who opened the innings brought up his 2nd century in first-class cricket in only his 3rd game.

Prithvi who was the youngest to score a fifty in the Ranji Trophy final, repeated the feat in the Duleep Trophy final to become the youngest to score a fifty. He later went on to also become the youngest to score a century in the Duleep Trophy final. At the age of 17 years and 320 days, Shaw became the 2nd youngest centurion in Duleep Trophy.

Sachin Tendulkar was the youngest to score a century in Duleep Trophy as the former batting legend scored 159 at the age of 17 years and 262 days. Sachin scored another hundred in the following week in the same tournament during the 1990/91 season.

With this century, Prithvi Shaw also became the 2nd player to score a century in two different Indian first-class cricket competitions before turning 18. Sachin Tendulkar scored a century in all three Indian FC tournaments (Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Irani Trophy) before turning 18. Orrisa’s Sritam Das is the only other player to with centuries in Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy before turning 19.

This century also made Prithvi the youngest player in Indian first-class cricket to score a century in the final. Overall, he is the 2nd youngest to score a hundred in the final of a first-class tournament. Javed Miandad scored a century at the age of 17 years and 275 days in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final and one more in the Kardar Summer Shield final in the following month.
