Prithvi Shaw eyes a comeback in Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament
"Some things aren’t in your hands."
2018 started on a stupendous note for the young Prithvi Shaw and it went on to become better. The right-handed batsman broke into the Indian national team in the two-match Test series against the Windies back in October and he churned out a century in his very first appearance in Rajkot. He was also picked for the four-match Test series against Australia in December-January.
However, fate had something cruel in store for the Thane-born as he developed an ankle injury and was subsequently ruled out of the series, much to his disappointment. The mishap took place in the warm-up match against Cricket Australia XI at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and he had to be carried off the park. Nevertheless, the youngster is up and running to make a comeback.
The pugnacious potential is now set to make a comeback in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, which gets underway in a week’s time on Thursday, February 21. Shaw will represent Mumbai, whose first match is against Sikkim in Indore. Shaw was hurt, after not getting to play in Australia, but is aiming to gain his confidence back. He also threw more light on the injury.
felt the swelling and pain had reduced
“I felt sad as it was a good opportunity for me to play the quality Australian bowling line-up. I was a bit upset. But some things aren’t in your hands. Now I’m looking forward to the Mushtaq Ali tournament to find my touch and gain some confidence back,” Shaw was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
“My recovery was going fine, after the second Test they were trying for me to get fit but the pain had returned. Then it was decided that I should go to NCA and do my rehab in India instead of travelling with the Indian team,” he remarked.
“A few days after the injury, I felt the swelling and pain had reduced and I felt that I will recover normally for the second Test. I had begun to jog as well but I could feel the pain again. The pain was there even though the swelling had reduced,” he added.
