Shikhar Dhawan’s never-ending ordeal with injuries continued during the recently concluded three-match One-day International series against Australia. The southpaw injured his shoulder while fielding during the series-decider at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Dhawan was then taken to hospital scans and was later seen sporting a sling during India’s run-chase.
The writing was on the wall and it was shortly confirmed that the southpaw has now been ruled out of the tour of New Zealand which starts from January 24 in Auckland. With Dhawan ruled out, it saves the team-management from the headache of choosing between KL Rahul and the southpaw for that elusive opener’s spot. But, it also leaves them with a quandary of who to name as the left-hander’s replacement.
India has high-pedigree options in the form of Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson who replaced Dhawan in the West Indies series after the southpaw was ruled out due to injury he suffered during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw. Speaking of Prithvi Shaw, the precocious young talent manages to hog the limelight for his shenanigans both on and off the field.
Prithvi Shaw likes the infographic of Shikhar Dhawan being ruled out of the T20I series
Prithivi, who just two days ago, was in the news for his whirlwind 150 against New Zealand XI in a tour game, has once made sure he becomes a trending hashtag on social media, thanks to his latest gaffe. Prithvi happened to like an infographic shared by a cricket portal of Dhawan being ruled out from the T20I series against New Zealand.
Nothing can be hidden on social media, and this too bigger a gaffe to go unnoticed. And, just like that, the infographic showing Prithvi Shaw’s name in the ‘like’ section went viral. This is not the first time that Shaw has been in the news for reasons other than his obvious potential with the bat. The teenage sensation was found guilty of consuming a banned drug during a Mumbai T20 League fixture and was handed a six-month backdated suspension.
But, since then Shaw has been in brilliant form in both List-A, T20 and First-Class cricket, and it will be interesting to see whether the youngster gets an opportunity in the Indian T20I squad in place of the injured Dhawan.
