Prithvi Shaw over the moon after Sunil Gavaskar backed him for India selection

Mumbai batsman Prithvi Shaw has emerged as a bright talent of Indian cricket. He forayed into first-class cricket last year and has taken giant strides ever since, so much so that he has received backing from supporters and even experts in the cricketing fraternity. He also performed exceptionally with the willow and captained his team to glory in this year’s Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand.
The 18-year old recently played in India ‘A’s two-match tri-series against South Africa ‘A’ and notched a century in the first match in Bangalore. The Indian senior team’s batting lineup is in the middle of a lean patch and former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has mentioned that the youngster may get a national call-up in India’s tour of Australia later this year and Shaw was ecstatic after getting his support.

“One of my friends sent me a screenshot of that from social media. When I read it, I just thought I am very blessed that Sunil Sir is praising me. I will try to not let him down. I am not thinking of playing for India. You never know. I just have to keep grabbing the opportunities and scoring runs. I should be really focusing on each and not thinking too far ahead,” Shaw was quoted as saying in Times Now.
Prior to the South Africa ‘A’ series, he did well in India ‘A’s campaign of England. He started his tour with a century against Leicester an then notched another ton against Windies ‘A’ in Northampton. The Thane-born pugnacious potential finished the tour with a knock of 188 runs in Beckenham against the same opposition.
His next assignment will be India ‘A’s quadrangular series, also featuring India ‘B’, Australia ‘A’ and South Africa ‘A’. In the meantime, India’s squad for the remaining two Tests against England is yet to be announced and Shaw has definitely made a case for himself for a national team selection.
