India’s young opening batsman Prithvi Shaw is under major scrutiny after his horrendous outing in the first pink-ball Test of the four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia at Adelaide Oval. Most of the Indian batsmen flattened on the Adelaide pitch as the visitors succumbed to a humiliating defeat by 8 wickets.
But Shaw’s faulty technique and similar mode of dismissals in both the innings made him the most vulnerable in the Indian batting line-up. The 21-year-old’s selection for the opening Test had already raised a lot of eyebrows as he had failed to perform in the two warm-up games and thus many were of the opinion that Shubman Gill or KL Rahul should be given a chance to open the batting for India.
Prithvi Shaw’s failures in both the innings have made things worse for him as he is constantly being trolled and criticised on social media. In the first innings, Shaw had to go back to the pavilion in the very first over of the match after bagging a duck. The right-hander had attempted to play a wide delivery from Mitchell Starc only to find an inside edge on to his middle stump.
Something similar happened with the Thane-born in the second innings too as he scored four runs off as many balls before he fell prey to fast bowler Pat Cummins.
Prithvi Shaw comes up with a cryptic post on Instagram
Witnessing the dismissals of the young Indian batsman against the Australian bowlers, a handful of cricket analysts including Sunil Gavaskar and Shane Warne had questioned the batting technique of Prithvi Shaw and asserted that he is bound to struggle at the international level.
After being constantly trolled and targeted on social media for his poor form with the willow, Shaw came up with a motivating status to give a befitting reply to all the haters. The 21-year-old took to his official Instagram handle to post a story that read, “If sometimes people demotivates you for something you try to do, that means you can do that but they can’t.”
Here’s his story:
As of now, Prithvi Shaw has featured in just 5 games for the Indian team in Whites and has amassed a whopping 339 runs at a stunning average of 42.4.
