Prithvi Shaw slightly nervous prior to his first Duleep Trophy game
No pressure on me: Prithvi Shaw
Mumbai and India U-19 team, Prithvi Shaw, revealed that he is slightly nervous prior to the start of the opening game of the All India Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament (Duleep Trophy). Shaw would represent India Red in place of Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians batsman Ambati Rayudu.
The right-handed opener stole all the limelight with a century on his Ranji Trophy debut against Domestic Giants and arch-rivals Tamil Nadu in the semi-finals earlier this year. He followed it up with impressive performances (71 and 44) against Gujarat in the finals held at Indore.
Shaw is fresh off a successful tour with India U-19 squad where he stroked three fifties in the youth ‘tests,’ before leading India to a 5-0 clean sweep in the One-dayers. Shaw, who was intimated about his selection for the day/night tournament, which involves playing with the pink ball, only a couple of days back on Tuesday. The tournament already has been plagued with injuries, ailment and players unavailable due to International assignments.
Previously, Shaw was at Vizag playing for Indian Oil. The opener scored 52 against Andhra Pradesh and 35 against Baroda. With both games being washed out, he was waiting for the third game when he got news of his selection in the Dinesh Karthik-led India Red team.
No pressure on me: Shaw
“I didn’t expect to get a call-up for Duleep Trophy because I have figured in just two Ranji Trophy matches. I think the selectors and coaches trust me to play well, All the players along with captain Dinesh Karthik and coach Narendra Hirwani sir welcomed and congratulated when I joined the team for practice. Hirwani sir told me to play my natural game,” commented Prithvi Shaw according to Mid-Day.
“I don’t think there is any pressure on me, but I am slightly nervous as I will face India’s best attack if I get a chance to play. It will definitely be a challenge, but at the same time, this experience will teach me how to play at the higher level,” revealed the 17-year-old.
