18-year-old Prithvi Shaw after leading the India U19 team to glory in the 2018 junior World Cup is carrying on his success at first-class level. He was recently picked in the India A squad for the tour of England and played both the List A as well as FC games. He hit a couple of hundreds in the one-dayers against Leicestershire and Windies A. In the days match against West Indies A he played a magnificent knock of 188 and scored a half century against England Lions in the last game.

Shaw is currently opening the batting for India A at home vs South Africa A and kicked off the Unofficial Test series with a 136. His consistent performances have earned the left-hander an average of 56.76 in FC cricket. Thus as the Indian senior team openers are struggling to get bat on ball in England fans and former cricketers are asking for his inclusion in the Test squad for the last two matches of the ongoing series.

On the occasion of India’s Independence Day Shaw described the feeling of wearing the jersey and representing the national team. “It’s a proud moment for me for anyone who plays for India, wearing that jersey is a different feeling. You don’t play for yourself, the Indian jersey you are wearing is more important than your individual name and the team has more value,” he said in a video posted by the BCCI.

His bunch proved to be the most dominant in the U19 Wolrd Cup in New Zealand. They were unbeaten throughout and won the final with utmost authority to make their coach Rahul Dravid proud.

“It was an amazing feeling for each one of us. The efforts we had put in the last year and a half leading into the World Cup, we went there and won it. The feeling is indescribable, one of the best feelings I’ve had,” Shaw said trying to explain what was going through his mind the moment he lift the trophy.

He also wished everyone a happy Independence Day.
