One of India’s most popular match winners, Yuvraj Singh was out in the cold for long. In the first ODI as well it felt like he would play a big knock, but it is the wait that he along with his fans had to deal with. On Thursday, we saw the vintage southpaw at his very best. He milked the England bowlers, switched gears at regular intervals and most importantly, expressed himself.

It was a much-needed hundred for the middle order batsman, who hasn’t been able to inspire enough trust from the selectors to be a regular part of the team for the last couple of years. “Probably one of my best – my highest score in ODIs. I don’t know when the last time I got a hundred – probably the 2011 World Cup. Very happy that I have played a good innings. Try and get a partnership, they bowled really well up front and we wanted to take our time. Just wanted to play down the ground and not take much risks” Yuvraj said while talking to the presenter in the innings break.

His antics in the doemstic circuit proved helpful, as he found the ball hitting the middle of the bat in most of the occasions. He added, “Whole domestic season I have been hitting the ball really well. I was having a word with Sanjay Bangar and I told him, the way I’m hitting the ball – I’m going to score big. With the five fielder rule, mid-on and mid-off will always be up, you knew the bowler is always going to bowl a bouncer, practice hard and play your shots”.

Yuvraj and MS Dhoni’s on-field chemistry was a much talked about topic before the start of the series, and it didn’t take much time to see them getting on with the business. The duo added 256 runs for the fourth wicket stand. Yuvraj termed Dhoni’s swashbuckling knock as a great one and added, “He is the most experienced middle-order batsman in our team. Sensational captain for India. I have always felt that when Mahi isn’t captaining, he will be more free and you will see the result today.”

On being asked about the staggering total (381/6) that India have put up, the left-hander said, ”These days nothing is a big total, depends on how we bowl and the dew factor. If we take early wickets, we should win.”
