The Royal Challengers Bangalore had a very disappointing season in the Indian Premier League this year. They came into the tournament as the favorites this year but ended up in the ultimate spot in the points table. They had some really promising young talents this season and were expected to call the shots. However, that did not happen. One such youngster was Yuzvendra Chahal.

The young leggie was surely disappointed with the way things turned out for them in the season. Chahal, on the personal front, returned with 14 wickets to his name in 13 matches. The RCB camp boasted of big guns like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle. However, Yuzvendra Chahal does not want those players to be blamed for the poor show.

“Why should they be blamed? They are the world class players. These three took RCB to the final last season. If you see their records, that says it all. They are the best in the world. All I want to say is, it was a bad season for us. We will come back hard next season,” quoted Yuzvendra Chahal in a conversation with NDTV.

Elaborating on his point, he noted that it was the batting collapse that hurt them dearly in the season. The bowling and the fielding was certainly good enough. Also, the fact that T20 is an unpredictable format made things tougher for the team.

“Our batting didn’t click. Last year we made it to the final because of our batting. This time, our batting didn’t click so the performance dipped badly. Our bowling and fielding departments were really good. You can’t predict anything in T20s. RCB have done really well in the last season. We made it to the final last year,” quipped Yuzvendra Chahal.

On skipper Virat Kohli

Giving a word on skipper Virat Kohli, Chahal mentioned that he is a brilliant captain. Kohli was always spot on with his motivational talks. He tried his best to keep the players motivated throughout the season and that indeed made the players feel very secure.

“We were all disappointed on not making to the Playoffs. But, our captain Virat came to everyone’s rooms, motivated us and asked to give our best in the remaining matches. He asked us to play for our fans and pride. We are proud that we have a captain like him,” he quoted.

On CT 2017

Earlier in 2017, Yuzvendra had sparkled the T20I series against England. He had scalped 6/25 in a fixture in Bengaluru. He was awarded the Player of the Match and the Player of the Series for his heroics in the series. Despite that, he failed to make it to the Champions Trophy Indian squad. But Yuzvendra Chahal has no regrets about it. He is ready to work harder.

“Honestly, I didn’t expect my call-up. I was just playing my game and will continue giving my best. Rest will be taken care by selectors. If they think, I am good enough, they will take me in. Champions Trophy is a very big stage and there will be lot more opportunities for me in the coming future. I have some tricks in my mind and would like to first try them out in the practice sessions,” he quoted.

Lastly, when asked to pick the team he would want to play for in the next season of the IPL, Chahal said there is no replacement for RCB and Virat Kohli. “I will stick with Virat Kohli and RCB,” he noted.
