PSL 2017: Full list of award winners

Having finished runners-up in the inaugural edition of the Pakistan Super League last year, Quetta Gladiators were once again on the wrong side of the result in the league final. This time, it was Peshawar Zalmi who beat them by 58 runs to lift the title. On a pitch where it wasn’t very easy to score runs, Quetta needed their batsmen to be smart. Instead, they perished one after the other to extravagant shots.

Shahid Afridi’s finger injury denied fans a glimpse of their national hero at the final but the packed Gaddafi Stadium was invested in another hero. Sammy’s last-over brilliance got the crowd into a frenzy and a chorus of “Sammy, Sammy” could be heard loudly.

Here’s a compilation of the summary of the Post-Match Presentation Ceremony.

Man of the Match – Darren Sammy – for his last over heroics with the bat and for being a great captain throughout the series.

Best Batsman, Best Keeper, Man of the Tournament – Kamran Akmal – Akmal received the coveted Man of the Tournament award, as well as the awards for best wicketkeeper and best batsman of the tournament. He scored a total of 353 runs in a total of 11 innings, with a top score of 104, also the highest in the tournament. Akmal was the wicketkeeper with 12 dismissals, the highest in PSL 2017.

Best bowler of the season – Sohail Khan – He picked up 16 wickets at an average of 15 and had an economy of 7.61.

Spirit of cricket trophy – Quetta Gladiators – The $20,000 ‘Spirit of Cricket Trophy’ was awarded to the Quetta Gladiators, who played the final without four of their international players.

The ‘ICC Spirit of Cricket Award’ was presented to Islamabad United skipper Misbah-ul-Haq at the closing ceremony. Misbah received the award in December last year; but, as Ramiz Raja said, “It’s a matter of pride” for the team.
