Pakistan cricket has been a witness to numerous controversies over the years which involves match-fixing as one of the gravest problems. The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is into the third season and has been marred by match-fixing scandals, political turmoil, and terrorist attacks. Several cricketers faced the wrath of suspensions owing to accusations for fixing matches and bringing shame to the country.
88 bookies in Karachi
The tournament is seen by the bookies as an opportunity to make significant money as they try to lure cricketers into their trap. Recently, as per reports in tribune.com, the police have claimed to have busted 15 bookies, including a local TV channel employee, preparing to place bets on the upcoming matches.
As per Clifton Tauqqeer Naeem, the SSP of Karachi, the officials of the Darakshan Police has recovered a total of Rs 6.5 million in international and local currency, three laptops, 39 mobile phones and costly mobile phones in a raid at a bungalow on Khayaban-e-Badban in Defence Housing Authority (DHA). The police also mentioned that 88 bookies are still operating in the city.
Earlier this month, the Islamabad police arrested 29 men during a raid in Saidpur Village where the suspects were betting on PSL matches inside a den. The police gathered Rs 80,000, cans of beer, 30 mobile phones and 400 grams of hashish. The operation was done under the supervision of ASP Secretariat Zohaib Ranjha. The accused are locked in the Kohsar Police Station.

The league stage of the Pakistani T20 League is done and dusted and it has entered into the playoffs stages. Quetta Gladiators, Islamabad United, Karachi Kings and the Peshawar Zalmi have qualified after some sterling performance in the round-robin stage. The opening game (Qualifier 1) of the playoffs will be played between Karachi and Islamabad at the Dubai International Stadium.
