PSL 2018: Bollywood actor Sanjay Kapoor spotted supporting Peshawar Zalmi
The owner of the Zalmi team, Javed Afridi, is a good friend of the actor.
The much anticipated third edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) kicked off earlier yesterday. Defending champions Peshawar Zalmi took on the Multan Sultans in the curtain raiser. However, the Zalmi franchise failed to continue their winning streak as they succumbed to a seven-wicket defeat.
Though Indian cricketers are not part of PSL3, veteran Bollywood actor Sanjay Kapoor was spotted at the opening ceremony. Sanjay, who is the brother of veteran actor Anil Kapoor, was in the city for his nephew’s wedding, which was held two days prior in Dubai.
He then chose to stay back for the opening fixture between Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans as his friend Javed Afridi, the owner of the Zalmi team, had extended a special invitation to him for the match. The Bollywood star, therefore, was seen supporting Peshawar Zalmi, garbed in its colours and sporting the team’s cap as well. Coupled with the festive atmosphere in Dubai, Sanjay was lured to prolong his visit.
Interestingly, both Sanjay and Afridi hail from Peshawar, where their ancestors resided. The actor mentioned that he likes watching cricket matches, regardless of which teams are playing.
Speaking to Geo.tv, the 52-year-old actor said he was “glad to be part of the PSL 3.” Always jovial as a person, Kapoor added, “Whether it be Pakistan or India, cricket is popular in both countries,” and he watches the game whenever he catches an opportunity.
Sanjay’s favourite cricketer is the Indian skipper
When quizzed who is his favourite cricketer, Kapoor revealed it as Virat Kohli.
Kohli, meanwhile, saw his team go down to the hosts in 2nd T20I in Centurion, as they pulled back the series on level terms. Despite a nervy start, the Proteas cruised to their chase of 189 rather comprehensively at the end. The constant drizzle during the second half of the game also played a pivotal role as it enhanced the surface for batting.
The two teams now meet in the deciding third fixture in Cape Town on February 24.
