PSL 2018: Kumar Sangakkara and others from Multan Sultans willing to travel Pakistan

Debuting in the third edition of Pakistan’s very own T-20 domestic league, Multan Sultans is a team to beat in the ongoing edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL). In Shoaib Malik, they find a leader, a seasoned campaigner who is ably supported by some T-20 specialists in the form of Kieron Pollard, Thisara Perera, and some aspiring young local talent.
PSL, form last three years has been the prime initiative by the PCB to revive its cricket in Pakistan. This was certainly the prevailing reason for organizing the final of the previous edition in Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium which was a definite success as even the foreign players from both the team support for the cause in Pakistan.
Sangakkara and others agree to travel Pakistan
There couldn’t have been the better news for the Sultans’ fans as the Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara and other foreign players from the team have agreed to be with the team for the knockout stages of the league in Pakistan. The news was confirmed by the franchises’ President Asher Schon in his interaction with the media as the two eliminator matches in Gaddafi Stadium and the final on March 25 at Karachi’s National Stadium are set to be staged in the country itself.
“Yes, Kumar Sangakkara has agreed [to come to Pakistan] and he’s very excited about it, he has a lot of history in Pakistan,” Schon was quoted as saying by geo.tv, adding that other foreign players in his team would be traveling to Pakistan as well.
Talking about team’s performance so far
At present, the debutants in the season find themselves in a comfortable position with two wins from the three matches played so far and occupying the second spot on the points table. The president felt relaxed in the way the franchise has fared so far. In his views, the senior players with the likes of Shoaib Malik and Kumar Sangakkara have stepped to the occasion and it seems a confident bunch of guys moving forward in the tournament. He didn’t even fail to mention the coaching staff and their role in keeping the players together as they, “must be given credit for the team’s performance.”
Being the only other team after Lahore Qalandars, to represent the Punjab province, Schon also notified about the future prospects that both the franchise are in talks with regards to the development of younger players at the grass root level in their own country. The president appreciated the Qalandars’ management in terms of their effort in developing players, “We want to work closely with Lahore Qalandars for the player’s development program,” he said.
