PSL 2018: Prominent overseas player denies travelling to Pakistan
This is not the great news for Pakistan fans.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is keen on reviving international cricket in the country and are leaving no stone unturned for the same. They’ve scheduled the knockout matches and the final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Lahore and Karachi this year. The chairman of the board Najam Sethi is also hopeful of arranging more than half of PSL matches in Pakistan next year. However, they are jolted with their ambitions as the prominent overseas cricketer has clearly denied travelling Pakistan if his team qualifies for the playoffs.
Recently, more players have shown their keen interest in playing in Pakstan. The likes of Daren Sammy, Liam Dawson, Kumar Sangakkara and Colin Ingram among others are ready to play in the country this time around which marks a huge success in the efforts of the board. Even last year PCB successfully hosted World XI for 3 T20Is and Sri Lanka for a solitary game in the shortest format. Also, Windies is scheduled to play a T20I series against Pakistan which should make things more clear in the near future.
Who denied to travel Pakistan?
The former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has clearly denied to risk himself by travelling to Pakistan if his team Quetta Gladiators qualifies for the playoffs. He has already decided to hang up his boots after the ongoing edition and his career will end prematurely and also without winning the coveted trophy in this case. Quetta has been the runners-up on both the previous editions of PSL and is one of the strongest sides of the tournament.
In the post-match press conference on Wednesday, he clearly said ‘No’ when of the reporters asked about his chances of travelling to Pakistan. Pietersen played a key role in their recent win over Islamabad United and was awarded Man of the Match. He scored 48 off 34 deliveries with 4 fours and three sixes during the chase of 135 against Islamabad United.
