PSL 2019: DSport stops the tournament broadcast as a protest against Pulwama Attacks
This is quite a huge blow for the PSL.
The Pulwama Attacks seemed to have hit the entire nation quite hard. 44 soldiers martyred due to a cowardly terrorist act is no joke by any stretch of the imagination and the Indians have taken the issue seriously. There have been several protests in the country and television broadcaster DSport has taken the same path. The Indian government earlier decided to withdraw the ‘Most Favoured Nation (MNF)’ status from Pakistan.
Customs duties on all goods imported from Pakistan have been hiked to 200 per cent with immediate effect. DSport also decided the react against the issue. The broadcaster decided to stop airing the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2019 as a mark of protest. The airing of the PSL matches seemed to have stopped with immediate effect as the channel is airing other shows and sports instead of the games in the league.
DSport stops airing PSL 2019
The latest edition of the Pakistan Super League has been dealing with several blows already. It all started with Pit Bull not attending the inaugural ceremony due to a logistical failure. This came as a massive disappointment given that there were a lot of expectations. And now, just four or five games into the tournament, one of the important broadcasters decided to pull out as per reports in Pak Passion.
The fourth game of the tournament between Islamabad United and Multan Sultans wasn’t aired completely on DSport. Moreover, the fifth game isn’t being aired either. The further developments about the issue are not known as yet. It remains to be a puzzle if there will be any negotiation talks between the two parties to set things right again.
The tournament has been a witness to a handful of games after the inaugural match between defending champions Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars, who finished at the bottom of the table in all three previous editions of the PSL, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
