PSL 2019: Quetta Gladiators' owner optimistic about Shane Watson playing in Pakistan
"The real fun of PSL will be felt when all the matches are being played in Pakistan."
Bringing cricket back to Pakistan has been one of the primary objectives of PSL over the last two years. While a part of the last edition of the league was played in the country, many players backed off from playing in Pakistan. However, AB de Villiers recently mentioned that he’d fly to Pakistan to play the PSL. Hence, on the back of this decision, Quetta Gladiators’ owner Omar feels that it’d be easy to convince Shane Watson as well.
Omar confirmed that all the other foreign players in his team are ready to play in Pakistan. But, he also seemed to have learnt his lessons from the previous season. Therefore, the franchise has strengthened its team by bagging some good local players. The Gladiators’ owner is hopeful that the team will not be over-reliant on the foreign players.
I am very happy to see PSL matches coming to Pakistan
“When Shane would see that the likes of AB and other top players are also visiting Pakistan then it would be easy to convince him to make a decision on visiting Pakistan with a positive nod,” the Gladiators owner said as quoted by Geo.tv. “Rest all foreign players are coming, but this time no over-reliance on foreigners. Our bench strength is very strong and I am hopeful that locals will play an important role,” Omar said.
Talking about the Gladiators’ run in the three seasons thus far, Omar seemed to be content. He said that he was happy that his team helped in bringing cricket back to Pakistan. Eight matches in the PSL-4 will be played in the country this year.
“I am very happy to see PSL matches coming to Pakistan. The real fun of PSL will be felt when all the matches are being played in Pakistan. I hope that with Imran Khan in power, the government would facilitate all efforts to bring PSL completely to Pakistan,” he said.
Omar termed the PSL to be one of the most competitive leagues in the world. Furthermore, he said that it is the second top league at the moment. The tournament will commence on February 14.
