PSL 2019: The Sixth Team secures Qais Ahmad's services for the upcoming season
Qais Ahmad was the first pick of the team in Gold Category.
The players draft event for the upcoming edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) took place on Tuesday as the franchises looked to rebuild their side. As many as 650 players were up for grabs during the event as every team was allowed to pick three platinum, three diamond, three gold, five silver, two emerging and four supplementary category cricketers. In the process, the Sixth Team managed to snaffle the Afghanistan leggie Qais Ahmad for the tournament.
He was slated in the Gold category and the team, handled by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) at the moment, picked him as soon as he was in the drafts. This comes as a surprising decision from them as recently the news surfaced that the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) hasn’t allowed its cricketers to participate in the league.
Being in the Gold category, Qais Ahmad will now be paid a minimum of US $50,000 which is approximately Rs 35 Lakhs if he features for the Sixth team. He is the one player to watch out for in the future for Afghanistan and hogged the limelight during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The 18-year-old is yet to play for his country at the highest level but has already set the stage on fire in his short career so far.
Who others were picked?
Steve Smith, Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik, the trio, will play together which makes his team look extremely strong. The big hitter like Nicholas Pooran and Laurie Evans are also part of the team with Daniel Christian and Joe Denly being the other overseas players.
In the bowling department, they don’t have to worry much either. The likes of Mohammad Abbas, Junaid Khan and Mohammad Irfan will look after the pace bowling while Qais Ahmad remains one of the top spinners in the team and will have an important role to play.
