PSL 2020: Match 16, Lahore Qalandars vs Quetta Gladiators – End of Qalandars' losing streak, Ben Dunk’s record knock, Lahore's biggest total and more stats

Lahore Qalandars registered their first win of the season thanks to a record stand between Ben Dunk and Samit Patel against the Quetta Gladiators. The duo added 155 runs for the 4th wicket in only 73 deliveries after the Qalandars were 50/3 in the 8th over.

Ben Dunk smashed 10 sixes and three fours during his 43-ball 93 while Samit made a 40-ball 71 to help Lahore finish on 209/5. Quetta kept losing wickets during the chase in pursuit of a big target. Ben Cutting struck five sixes during his 27-ball 53 towards the end to bring the losing margin down to 37 runs.

All the statistical highlights from Lahore Qalandars’ big win over the Quetta Gladiators:

Maiden win at home for the Qalandars:

1 – This was Lahore Qalandars’ maiden win at their home ground, Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. They played two PSL matches and a T20 game against MCC team prior to the victory against Gladiators.


1 – This was also the first win for the Lahore Qalandars on Pakistan soil. They played six T20 matches before this win – 5 games in the PSL and 1 match against MCC. They ended up losing also those six games.


End of losing streak of Qalandars:

6 – Lahore Qalandars put an end to their 7-match losing streak in Pakistan Super League. Their last win came during the last edition also against Quetta Gladiators by an 8-wicket margin. This is now the joint-longest losing streak for any team in the PSL behind Karachi Kings’ seven consecutive defeats across 2016 and 2017 editions of the PSL.

Lahore Qalandars did go 8 consecutive matches without a win across 2017 and 2018 editions which included a Tied match where they lost in the Super Over. Qalandars also lost 8 consecutive matches in the Twenty20 format between their two wins against Gladiators. This streak including a loss against MCC team last month.


Qalandars’ biggest total:

209/5 – The total of 209/5 by Lahore Qalandars in this match is now their highest total in PSL history. Their previous highest PSL total was 204/4 against Multan Sultans in the 2019 edition. Lahore’s total of 209/5 is also the highest PSL total for any team against Quetta Gladiators surpassing their own 201/2 in the 2016 edition.

Overall, only two teams managed to post bigger totals in the Pakistan Super League than 209/5 by Lahore – Islamabad United’s 238/3 vs Lahore Qalandars in 2019 and Peshawar Zalmi’s 214/5 vs Islamabad United also in 2019.


A record knock by Ben Dunk:

10 – Ben Dunk became the first player in the Pakistan Super League history to smash 10 sixes in an innings. As many as five players before Dunk struck a highest of 8 sixes in a PSL inning.

Dunk is also only the 4th player to hit 10 or more sixes in Twenty20 match on Pakistan soil. Kamran Akmal hit 12 sixes during his unbeaten 150 for Lahore Whites in 2017 Domestic T20 Cup while Bilal Asif (for Sialkot Stallions in 2015) and Asif Ali (for Northern in 2019) hit 10 sixes apiece during domestic T20 tournaments.


93 – Ben Dunk’s 93-run knock is now the joint 4th highest PSL score for Lahore Qalandars and the highest by an overseas player for them. Mohammad Hafeez scored an unbeaten 98 against Islamabad United earlier this season while Fakhar Zaman scored 94 against Quetta Gladiators in 2018. Umar Akmal also scored 93 for Qalandars against Gladiators in 2016.


A record partnership by Ben Dunk-Samit Patel pair:

155 – The partnership of 155 between Ben Dunk and Samit Patel is now the 2nd highest partnership for any wicket in the Pakistan Super League. The highest is 157 by Liam Livingstone and Babar Azam pair against Multan Sultans in the 2019 edition for the Karachi Kings.
