Ahead of the upcoming sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Multan Sultans have named wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan as their captain. The Pakistan star has replaced veteran batsman Shan Masood as the captain of the Multan-based franchise. Last year, Multan Sultans made it to the PSL playoffs for the first time under Masood’s captaincy.

Rizwan, on the other hand, was plying his trade for Karachi Kings last year. He was picked up by the Multan team in the PSL 2021 draft. Rizwan surprisingly failed to cement his place in Karachi Kings’ playing eleven during the unsuccessful stint. Last year, he featured in only two matches and got to face just one ball although Karachi Kings went on to win the tournament.

With form on his side and the franchise showing immense faith in him, Rizwan will be looking to turn things around in the PSL too. The 28-year old has been in red-hot form in international cricket and recently scored his maiden T20 hundred during the just-concluded three-match T20 series against South Africa.

“Mohammad Rizwan has shown exemplary leadership qualities with the Pakistan team as well as with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Domestic tournaments,” said Multan Sultans owner Alamgir Khan Tareen. “We are excited to have him lead our team for the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League.”

I am looking forward to playing my part this year: Mohammad Rizwan:

Expressing his delight over being appointed Multan Sultans’ captain, Mohammad Rizwan said he is looking forward to playing his part for the team this season. Rizwan further added that he will aspire to get better this time and work with the senior players such as Shahid Afridi, Shan Masood, and Sohail Tanveer.

“I have understood the innovative approach the franchise applied last season and am looking forward to playing my part this year,” said Mohammad Rizwan.

Rizwan has been in stunning form in international cricket since the tour of England last year where he won the Player of the Series award in the Test series. It was followed by the impressive tour of New Zealand where he scored three fifties in four innings. During the recent home series against South Africa, he scored his maiden Test century in the second game before scoring a stunning T20I century in the subsequent T20I series.
