Peshawar Zalmi advanced to the finals of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 after defeating Islamabad United by eight wickets in Eliminator 2. Batting first at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the Islamabad-based side posted 174/9 thanks to blitzes from Colin Munro and Hasan Ali. The target was indeed a formidable one majority was backing Shadab Khan’s men to emerge victorious.

Contrary to the expectations, Peshawar Zalmi didn’t break a sweat and won the game with as many as 19 balls to spare. Dashing opener Hazratullah Zazai was the wreaker-in-chief for Peshawar, scoring a quick-fire century. The southpaw went after the Islamabad bowlers from the outset and scored runs all over the park. He eventually fell prey to Mohammad Wasim Jr but not before scoring a 44-ball 66.

Rashid Khan wants Javed Afridi to get MG to Hazratullah Zazai

Zazai’s efforts took Peshawar Zalmi to the summit clash, and unsurprisingly, team owner Javed Afridi was on cloud nine. Praising the swashbuckling opener on Twitter, Afridi wrote: “ZAZAI JANA @zazai_3 ONCE AGAIN YOU WON ZALMI’s.” Reacting to the post, Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan, who represented Lahore Qalandars in PSL 2021, cheekily asked Afridi if he would gift a car from MG to Zazai. “MG?” Rashid commented alongside a car emoji.

For the unversed, Javed Afridi is the CEO of MG Pakistan. Hence, Rashid suggested him to award a brand new car to the Afghanistan star for his match-winning performance. Responding to the comment, Afridi pointed out Rashid’s cleverness but also accepted his request.

“Rashid Khana Der Wraan ai Kana. Kho #MG da Zazai Lapara Walay na pas sir stargo,” wrote Afridi in Pashto, which roughly translates to “You are very naughty Rashid, MG for Zazai, why not?” The episode ended with the talismanic leg-spinner congratulating his countrymen.

Meanwhile, Peshawar Zalmi will now play Multan Sultans in the final, which takes place in Abu Dhabi on June 24 (Thursday). The journey of these teams in PSL 2021 has been more or less the same, and there aren’t many factors separating them. In fact, both teams walked away with one victory each in their two league-stage games this season. Hence, it would be interesting to see how the summit clash unfolds.
