The growing stature of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has every year attracted more viewers and better talents to the tournament. With the fourth season set to be played in early 2019, they’re already making announcements about new associations. The biggest star attraction for upcoming PSL will be South African star cricketer AB de Villiers. He might have retired from international cricket but AB will continue to feature in T20 leagues and PSL is his new destination.
On September 7, both the organizers as well as the cricketer confirmed this new association and since then there are speculations about the team that will manage to get his signature on the dotted line. PSL yesterday tweeted the big news as they announced that the GOAT from South Africa will now take the field wearing one of their jerseys.
Their tweet read: “the GOAT from South Africa is now a part of PSL! A warm welcome to AB de Villiers.” AB also responded soon with his own tweet where he wrote: It’s time for @thePSLt20. So, there’s going to be a party in February?#ABaurPSL #psl2019”
Lahore in with the best chance
As de Villiers enters the PSL draft all the franchises will be eager to earn his services however, Lahore Qalanders have the best chance of getting that. As the team finished at the bottom of the points table in the previous edition, it makes them eligible to make the first pick in the draft.
Thus it is highly likely that the Qalandars will sign him up and appoint him the skipper for the tournament. The much-awaited player’s draft for the 2019 season will be held in November 2018.
On similar lines, reports emerged in India that the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise that features all the high-profile cricketers might as well appoint ABD captain for IPL 2019. All the major teams will be preparing for the World Cup and as the IPL closely succeeds it, there is a good possibility that those who play a crucial role for the national teams will either play the tournament partially or give it a miss. Virat Kohli, India’s maverick batter and the captain might not honour his IPL commitment either and thus de Villiers could be leading the franchise.
