With the advent of the shortest and perhaps the most entertaining format of the game of cricket, the franchise T20 leagues now play a significant role in giving recognition to a talented cricketer. From India’s Indian Premier League (IPL) to Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL), the franchise T20 leagues have been a major hit in all countries. The main reason for the meteoric rise of tournaments like IPL and BBL might be the time factor, as it provides top level cricketing action, drama and emotions in a very short span of time.
Another vital aspect of these tournaments is the entertainment factor, which brings a lot of fans to the stadiums, who otherwise do not follow the game. Pakistan‘s franchise league, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has also reached a mountain of a fan following in only a couple of seasons. While a player like Hardik Pandya is unearthed by the Mumbai Indians franchise, the PSL franchise has also been involved in identifying many hidden diamonds from the coal mines.
Now, the defending champions of PSL Peshawar Zalmi have taken a step which is bound to help Pakistani cricket in the near future. They have started a crusade #HaierZalmi100Pitches. Under this campaign, they will build as many as hundred cricket pitches across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). The campaign was inaugurated by the Zalmi ambassador Younis Khan and coach Muhammad Akram in Peshawar, Jamrod, Swabi and Mardan.
“We want to provide basic cricket facility to the young cricketers of Peshawar. We want our young kids to play cricket at proper cricket pitches event at grass root level so they avoid the danger of injuries. Not many cricketers in Peshawar and KPK have access to play cricket at proper cricket pitches. After #HaierZalmi100Pitches plan not only they will able to play cricket at proper pitches but also their skill level will also increase and Pakistan Cricket will also get benefit from this plan,” said Peshawar Zalmi team’s chairman, Javed Afridi.
Younis is hopeful of finding amazing talents in future
Legendary Pakistani cricketer Younis Khan feels this initiative taken by Zalmi will be responsible for unearthing many extraordinary talents in the future. “This is a great step to improve cricket facilities in KPK at the grass root level and I’m hopeful we will get some amazing talent in future,” he said.
