It has been only three seasons but Pakistan Super League (PSL) is already one of the best cricket leagues in the world at the moment.  There were apprehensions all over when the Pakistan Cricket Board decided to start the league in 2016 and the reasons were obvious. Pakistan were not even playing in their own country and holding a league was always going to be a herculean task. But fast forward three years and it has been nothing less than a success story.

Despite its relative newbie status, the PSL is undoubtedly one of the most lucrative and valuable leagues in the world. And as the fourth season of the league gets underway, former South Africa spinner Johan Botha, who will coach Multan Sultans this season, has said that the league boasts of the toughest bowling attacks on the planet, thus placing the league above the likes of Indian Premier League and Big Bash League.

It is a big statement considering that Botha has plied his trade in all the major leagues across the globe. The former Proteas spinner had spells in BBL, IPL, CPL, T20 Blast, and other leagues during his lengthy playing career. Speaking ahead of his team’s season opener, Botha said that Pakistan’s local bowlers are ‘so good and so skillful’.

“The local bowling is so good and so skillful. Pakistani wickets are really flat and the guys have to have the skill to bowl on flat wickets. Now, when they come to the UAE where the wickets do a little bit and it spins a little bit more, it shows it up a bit more,” he told The Cricketer.

“Most teams in this competition go with local bowlers and international batters. We won’t be a lot different. We’ve got a couple of international all-rounders at least – Andre Russell and Chris Green – and most teams go that way,” he added.

Multan Sultans eye good show:

The franchise, meanwhile, will be looking to put up a good show this time around after a forgettable outing last year which was their maiden season in the league. They managed to win just four of their ten games and finished fifth in the six-team tournament.
