PSL: Pakistan Cricket Board reminds franchises to pay annual fee

For the second time, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reminded the franchises of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to pay the annual fee. Going by the new financial model, the teams participating in Pakistan’s T20 league, have to pay half of the fee two months before each PSL. The condition of putting forth a bank guarantee against the franchise fee was also removed.

Concerning the same, PCB sent a letter last month, which asked the teams to pay on November 27. However, as of now, none of them have paid the fee. According to the new financial model, if a franchise fails to adhere to this, a bank guarantee three months in advance will be reinstated for that particular franchise.

In the meanwhile, the owners have asked the PCB to first clear the dues of previous editions. According to Cricket Pakistan, the calculated amounts of both, the fifth as well as the sixth edition of the league, are yet to be finalized. The board is awaiting some of its payments. The franchise owners feel that this issue should be resolved first, post which, the PCB itself will have to pay the franchises.

Team owners are not happy with the attitude of some board officials: Reports

According to another report by Samaa TV, the franchise owners are apparently unhappy with the attitude of some high-ranking PCB officials. Not only are they disappointed by the board’s policy to distribute profits equally, but are also dissatisfied with the media report on Friday, which indicated that the board had directed the franchises to include additional players.

As a matter of fact, the franchises had recently issued a joint-statement, on social media. This statement was to clarify that it was their suggestion to add more players to the squad, so that more domestic performers get a chance to play the mega-event. The “take it or leave it” offer hasn’t sat well with the owners.

Nevertheless, the seventh edition of the PSL is all set to commence on 27 January, and the Karachi Kings will locking horns with the Multan Sultans in the opener, at Karachi. Multan Sultans enter PSL 2022 as the defending champions, as the Rizwan-led side beat the Peshawar Zalmi by 47 runs, in the final of the sixth season of the league.
