Put an end to Pakistan’s scary environment in the dressing room, says Mohammad Amir

Mohammad Amir, the former Pakistan fast bowler, has lashed out at the team management, asking to end the ‘scary’ dressing room culture in their national team. The speedster hung his boots from all forms of international cricket on December 2020, alleging the PCB of mentally torturing him.

Amir came down hard on the team management, consisting of Waqar Younis and Misbah-ul-Haq. He last donned the national jersey in Pakistan’s tour of England back in August 2020. He urged the management to give ‘space and freedom’ to players in order for them to flourish at the highest level.

“Give players some space and freedom. Put an end to this scary environment in the dressing room, these very players will win you matches,” Amir was quoted as saying in Times Now.

Amir reckons that there’s more to his omission than only performances. The Gujjar Khan-born stated that if performances were a criterion, then the management should tell him why was he dropped after picking up 21 wickets in the 2019-20 Bangladesh Premier League.

“The issue is not about performance I know I can make a strong comeback but it is about this mental torture they put you through,” he quipped.

“If this is not a personal issue then what is it. My speed went down because I was not fully fit and fatigued. When I went to the Lanka Premier League, I was fresh and I bowled at 145KPH,” he stated.

In the BPL, he also got a six-wicket haul while playing for Khulna Tigers against the Rajshahi Royals. Even while turning out for the Galle Gladiators in the LPL where he played under the tutelage of Moin Khan, he bowled with venom and took the team to the final of the tournament.

Amir also hit out at Waqar and Misbah, saying that he was left in a dilemma after contrasting suggestions from them.

“One coach says speed does not matter what is important is taking 20 wickets (Waqar made the remarks on Thursday when asked about the lack of speed of the bowlers in New Zealand) and the other coach says speed is important in international cricket (Misbah said this at his interaction). Who should we believe?” Amir added.
