Have more questions before deciding on Bangladesh tour - Liam Plunkett

England pace bowler Liam Plunkett added a few more questions to the existential concerns over the England’s tour to Bangladesh due to security concerns. While the English board and the skipper Eoin Morgan has repeatedly affirmed that no player will be forced to go on the tour, the Bangladeshi counterparts have been giving full assurance of the security to the English team.

Liam Plunkett is a regular face in the limited overs format for England and is likely to fit in the squad for the tour. Plunkett said that he has a few more questions to ask before he arrives at his decision. However, he did say that he trusts whatever the board decides and also stressed on the fact that a deeper thought would be given in the matter after the ongoing Pakistan series is concluded.

“People are just digesting what went on in the meeting and I will have a bit more of a think once the series is done,” Plunkett said.

“Maybe I will speak to a few more people but I trust Reg and what he says and I will have another look after the series,” he added.

Plunkett was right in citing the point that if someone picks up a newspaper, he is bound to see troubles everywhere in the world. He said he will definitely consult his family before deciding and finalising his participation for the tour.

“You pick up a paper and there’s trouble everywhere in the world so I don’t know but I’ll speak to my family once the series is done, have a good think, look into it a bit more and come up with a decision,” quoted the pacer.

He further explained that he has the experience of playing in the subcontinent and knows exactly what the atmosphere is like. He kept on stressing that he has his own questions to answer before settling in for a final call.

“I know the environment in Bangladesh and I know what it’s like,” he said. “I’ve travelled in the sub-continent quite a lot so I’ve got a few more questions to ask and I’ll finalise my judgment and come up with a decision then,” said Liam Plunkett.

Earlier this year, the ECB did send their U19 team for the ICC U19 World Cup despite similar concerns raised by the Australian board, who eventually did not send their U19 side. Security concerns were afloat again following the terror attacks in Dhaka recently.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has assured highest levels of security for the English team for the tour and it will only be in the benefit of the game if England tours Bangladesh. England is scheduled to play 2 Tests and 3 ODIs during the tour.
