The inaugural edition of Mumbai T20 League is all set to commence on March 11 as the six teams will fight it out for the ultimate glory. It is a great platform for the youngsters in Mumbai to showcase their skills during the course of the tournament. The auction was recently held when the Indian stars like Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma were the most attractive ones. However, everyone was surprised when the latter received only a solitary bid and was bagged for Rs 6 Lakhs.
While Rohit will play for Mumbai North West franchise, Ajinkya Rahane will feature for Mumbai North side and bagged a contract of Rs 7 Lakhs. Rohit, however, will not be available for the most part of the tournament and would be only playing in the final if his team qualifies for the title clash. He is currently in Sri Lanka leading India in the Nidahas Trophy which is the T20I tri-series. The tournament will end on March 18 in case the Men in Blue qualifies for the final.
What is the point?
The big question though is being raised by many about all the fuss around Rohit Sharma being paid a whopping amount which is only 0.4% of his IPL retention fee for almost not featuring in the tournament. Was there any need to include his name in the auction pool and make one of the franchise bid for him? Instead, a talented youngster could’ve got an opportunity to display his prowess and may be would’ve benefitted from the same as well.
Ajinkya Rahane though received the best deal in the auction of Mumbai T20 League. He will also be available throughout the tournament for his team Mumbai North which will be a big boost for the franchise. However, the amount which he will earn from this league is also 1.75% of the retention fee he will be paid by Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
