Quinton de Kock is training hard for the upcoming spin challenge
"I train very hard every day, as do the rest of the guys," Quinton said.
After a defining stay at home, it’s time for the Bangladeshi team to test themselves in overseas conditions. Bangladesh Tigers would be locking horns with the Proteas in a long tour, comprising of two Tests, three ODIs and two T20I matches. It would be a challenging series for the home side as well, after the dismal performance in England, where they were racked up to a series defeat across all formats. As far as the preparations are concerned, the home side’s wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock has already started his training to tackle spin.
The last time when the Bangladesh visited South Africa in 2015, the visitors failed to register a single win across all formats of the game. On the other hand, the hosts are considered as the clear favourites because of their record at home. Quinton explained his technique and the different options he will adapt to tackle the spin challenge.
“There was a time where I found it extremely difficult to come up against spin as I mostly trained as an opening batter against pace. Many players find spin difficult, including myself,” said de Kock, as quoted by the source Independent Online.
The Spintechs mat
Earlier, the keeper launched a new product known as Spintechs mat, which helps the batters to improve their game against spin bowling.
“I needed extra help and so two years ago, I designed a mat for myself that I hoped would help me improve my batting. After using the mat for months on end and seeing great improvements, I felt it would be great to give back to the cricketing community and make this mat available to all cricketers, professional and non-professional,” said the left-hander.
The Spintechs mat is a uniquely designed product which helps the batters and keepers to improve their techniques against the spinners. “The product was developed to help all batters and keepers play spin. From the actual thoughts behind the design to the testing, I kept developing it until I was completely satisfied. It’s been an exciting journey.
Excited to play on the mat
The 24-year old young talent is considered to one of the best Proteas batsman of spin bowling with his aggressive abilities and capabilities. “My teammates think it’s a great innovation, and are just as excited as I am to use it. There are many great spin bowlers in the world, and the pitches in different conditions and environments all play a part. Hopefully, my innovation will help us deal with spinners from all over the world,” QDK added.
“I personally feel like I am in great shape. I train very hard every day, as do the rest of the guys. I’m excited to play in front of the home crowd. Hopefully we are able to give the home crowd something to cheer about when we face off against Bangladesh,” he concluded.
