Quiz: How well did you follow KXIP during IPL 2020?

It does not matter where they ended, but the Kings XI Punjab gave all of us some through entertainment this year. At the start of the tournament, they had truckloads of problems facing right in their eyes. Some were controllable, whereas some were indeed beyond their reach. The tournament, for them, started on a highly annoying note. However, the umpiring disasters aside, KXIP were guilty of letting things slip away way too often.

They lost games from unbelievable situations. In what was their second fixture of the season, KXIP messed up a chase when they needed a solitary run in three deliveries. Not to mention that they needed the run with Mayank Agarwal playing on 89! Against Rajasthan Royals, their bowlers lacked the discipline to such an indescribable extent that they lost despite posting a target that was never chased in the IPL history.

In another one of such classical KXIPesque manner of losing from a winning position, the Kings faltered and fell short by two runs despite being in a winning position against Kolkata Knight Riders. However, what followed was one of the most riveting comeback tales of all times in any tournament, let alone the IPL.

Coming out of the grave, the Kings finally learned the art of closing games. In some time, they found themselves winning exactly the kind of games they were losing. The double Super Over clash against MI, remember? Not just that one, but KL Rahul’s men pulled off another heist against the Delhi Capitals in a Super Over! Scripting the most incredible redemption, they put up an inspiring performance and salvaged their dented pride cometh the second-half of the league.

They had two points in the kitty after seven games, and they unstoppably toppled every unit that came in front, to put themselves into a situation where the qualification looked imminent. However, the dramatic streak of five would come to halt against Rajasthan Royals in their last game. Their horror first half meant that they could barely afford a slip-up and that, in turn, meant that the sailing Kings, after their loss in the last league fixture, were reliant on other results to fall their way.

It was gut-wrenching, indeed, to see KXIP’s run coming to an end. However, there were positives aplenty for them. Be it KL Rahul’s red-hot form with the bat or Chris Gayle’s exploits at 41, be it the shining youngsters in Arshdeep Singh and Ravi Bishnoi taking charge for the team or Mayank Agarwal’s sweltering stroke-play, KXIP can be proud of their journey in IPL 2020.
