The highly anticipated ICC awards were finally announced by the World Cricketing body on Thursday in which the Indians made it big. Virat Kohli earned the ODI Cricketer of the Year and the Cricketer of the Year awards and he was also named the skipper ODI and Test teams of the year. Also the new Indian wall Cheteshwar Pujara successfully made it to the Test XI of the year 2017. However, their teammate R Ashwin has congratulated both for making it big at the highest level and hoped for the similar 2018.

It was the best year for Virat Kohli as he ruled the limited overs format by scoring as many six centuries and was also the leading run-getter in a calendar year. Moreover, he almost won all the series played during the period September 2016 to December 2017 across formats. Even in the Tests, he notched six double centuries in no time and led from the front for his country.

Pujara, on the other hand, was rock solid during his stay in the middle in whites and amassed more than 1000 runs during the season. He was key to India’s juggernaut at home where they lost only a solitary game in around 16 Tests. He was picked in ICC Test team of the year as the number 5 batsman with Steve Smith and Kohli occupying the top order spots.

Ashwin’s special tweets

R Ashwin was delighted after his teammates made it big in the ICC awards and took to the micro-blogging website Twitter to congratulate them. He hailed the hard work and perseverance of his captain Kohli in his tweet which read, “Congratulations to @imVkohli on becoming the ODI cricketer of the year and the ICC cricketer of the year. Huge recognition for your hard work and perseverance.” The skipper deserved all the accolades that came his way as he was nonchalantly scoring runs across formats last year.

Ashwin also congratulated Pujara with a separate tweet and hoped the juggernaut continues in the year 2018 as well. His message read, “Congrats on making it to the ICC test team of the year @cheteshwar1 , 1000 runs in a season is no mean achievement. Let the juggernaut roll on Puj.”

Meanwhile, Ashwin himself missed out on a Test cricketer of the Year award by a whisker to the Australian skipper Steve Smith. But he made it to the Test team of the year as the only spinner in the line-up.
