India’s premier off-spinner R Ashwin and Test specialist Murali Vijay will soon be seen on the silver screen. They will be making a special appearance in the film Chennai 600028 II: Second Innings. The movie is a sequel to Chennai 600028, which was released in 2007 and was a coming-of-age sports comedy film revolving around cricket.

The movie was based on street cricket played in India and focussed on various themes such as friendship, love and rivalry. After the huge success of part 1, the director decided to recreate the magic with the same team. The movie will be bankrolled by ‘Black Tickets’ production. The movie was officially launched on Monday with a formal Pooja, and the shooting will commence soon. The poster of the movie was released in February 2016.

Earlier we have seen some cricketers acting in the movies like Ajay Jadeja for the movie ‘Khel’ released in 2003. Former Indian fast bowler, S Sreesanth, whose cricketing career was derailed by the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing scandal recently finished shooting for the Bollywood film Cabaret produced by Pooja Bhatt. The cricketer has also been approached to play a role in a film in his mother tongue of Malayalam. Film industry sources said that Sreesanth, who is busy with his second film, is negotiating dates for the Malayalam movie.

Chairman of selectors and former India batsman Sandeep Patil was once more than keen on making it big in Bollywood. Patil played the lead role in the 1985 romantic caper Kabhie Ajnabi The. He was paired opposite actress Poonam Dhillon, but the film failed to make an impact at the Box Office. Interestingly, wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani played the role of the villain in the very same movie. Sunil Gavaskar played the lead role in a Marathi film called ‘Savli Premachi’ which released in 1980 but made little business at the box office. He also starred in a special appearance in a Naseeruddin Shah starrer comedy ‘Malamaal’ in 1988.
