R Ashwin is the pride of Tamil Nadu and India: Syed Kirmani

The former India wicket-keeper Syed Kirmani has lavished praises on the premier off-spinner of the country R Ashwin for his remarkable achievements in his career so far. Though he has lost his place from the ODI side following the success of the wrist spinners, Ashwin is raring to make a comeback by making a few changes to his bowling. However, Kirmani also termed him as a perfect role model for the upcoming cricketers of India.

Ashwin has so far picked a staggering 311 in just 57 Test matches at an amazing average of 25.57. He has also taken as many as 26 five-wicket hauls in his career to go with seven 10-wicket match hauls. He also averages around 30 with the bat and has four centuries to his name in the format. Even in the limited overs outfit, he has picked 150 wickets in 111 ODI matches but his graph dipped at the wrong time.

Icon of Chennai award

Syed Kirmani was all praise of R Ashwin during the function where the cricketer was honoured with ‘Icon of Chennai’ award. “I have no words to express the achievements which Ravichandran Ashwin has done. My heartiest congratulations to the would-be legend in the making,” he said according to PTI.

The 68-year-old also termed him as the role model for the youngsters of the country. He also hailed the cricketer from Tamil Nadu for being dedicated towards his goal in his career and in the academics as well. “Ashwin is the pride of Tamil Nadu and the country. He is a great role model to the youngsters of today, the millennials of today. He is such a gentleman cricketer, among all the other gentleman cricketers, he excels. I deem it an honour to honour Ashwin,” Kirmani added.

Ashwin is striving hard to make a comeback in the coloured clothing as he still remains the favoured option in the whites for India. He is also known to be trying leg-spinning delivery to his armoury and it would be interesting to see if he unleashes it during his next outing.
