Team India Test vice-captain, Ajinkya Rahane, has been ruled out of the second Test against New Zealand, starting December 3 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The veteran was said to have sustained a hamstring injury during the final day of the Kanpur Test due to which he failed to make the cut for the second match.

He led the team at Green Park where regular Test skipper Virat Kohli didn’t play. After he sustained the injury, the 33-year-old Rahane is currently being monitored by the medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

“Ajinkya Rahane sustained a minor left hamstring strain while fielding on the final day of the 1st Test match in Kanpur. Since he has not recovered completely, he has been ruled out of the 2nd Test in Mumbai. His progress will be closely monitored by the BCCI Medical team,” a BCCI media release said on Friday morning.

Rahane constantly failing to perform

In the meantime, the netizens reckoned that BCCI put forth a fake news of Rahane’s injury just to make him sit out of the playing eleven. Rahane has come under fire in recent times due to his lack of form at the international level. Ever since the century he scored against Australia last year in Melbourne, the right-handed batter has looked out of sorts.

In the last 22 innings he has batted in, Rahane has got only two fifty plus scores. In the first Test against the Black Caps, he looked good for his 35 in the first innings, having smashed six fours. But then, fast bowler Kyle Jamieson rattled his woodwork. In the second innings, Rahane scored a mere four runs before left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel trapped him plumb in front.

Now that Shreyas Iyer has scored a ton, Rahane is going to be under some sort of pressure to perform. His injury concern may not make things any easier for him. Twitterati, nevertheless, felt that Rahane isn’t injured and rather, he has been dropped from the playing eleven. For the time being, his fortunes in the upcoming tour of South Africa remain to be seen.

Here’s how Twitterati reacted to Ajinkya Rahane’s exclusion
