The Indian team is currently in England for a limited-overs series, which gets underway today at the Old Trafford in Manchester. The team was jolted with a couple of body blows as Washington Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah injured themselves and were ruled out of at least the T20I series. Krunal Pandya and Deepak Chahar were announced as their replacements.

Both currently played in India A’s recently ended triangular series involving the England Lions and Windies A. Both of them were impressive, especially Chahar who has been in prime form ever since the IPL. Rahul Dravid, the coach of the A team during the tour, sounded ecstatic with India’s reserve players and mentioned it to be a positive sign before the 2019 Cricket World Cup in England and Wales.

“It’s been quite satisfying”- Dravid

“Especially with the World Cup in a year’s time, it’s nice to have bench strength, for the selectors to know there are good young players if the situation does arise. It’s nice to replicate this experience leading into the World Cup, to give these boys some exposure in these conditions,” Dravid was quoted as saying by Sport360.

Shreyas Iyer led the A team and they emerged victorious in the Final by five wickets beating the Lions at the Kennington Oval in London. Sam Hain’s superlative knock lifted the hosts to a competitive 108 runs. During the run chase, the visiting team lost quite a few wickets, but Rishabh Pant’s fifty guided them home. The former Indian cricketer also sounded satisfied by how the players stood up to the task.

“It’s been quite satisfying, some good performances. A tough game today as well, we had to fight back with the ball and the bat – so good to see them fight, good to see them compete in these conditions. Definitely some positives, as well as seeing some of the boys get into the national side as well, irrespective of the result,” he added.
