Rahul Dravid. Two words that form a prominent part of Indian folklore. ‘The Wall’ as he is fondly known, has been missing from the Indian cricketing arena since his retirement in 2012. The selectors and the ‘wise men’ of Indian cricket have been looking for a replacement ever since Dravid has made a swift entry into coaching.
However, on Wednesday, the name Dravid once again appeared prominently on the score card. But this time, it wasn’t Rahul that preceded the last name. Samit Dravid, the son of the former Indian skipper scored a century at the Loyola cricket grounds, during a U14 school/club tournament in Bengaluru. A wonderful and blistering knock of 125 from the starlet ensured that Bangalore Untied beat Frank Anthony Public School by 246 runs in the fifth edition of the Tiger Cup.
The tournament aims to create a structure to develop young players and guide them through the transition into the higher categories of domestic cricket in the country.
Pratyush G top scored for Bangalore United with a wonderfully compiled 143. The innings inadvertently set up a 213-run stand with Dravid Jr. for the fourth wicket. Needless to say, Bangalore United picked up a massive 246-run win after bowling out Frank Anthony Public School for a paltry 80.
Samit has been in fine form of late, after he smashed 93 against Delhi Public school, helping United to yet another win by 62 runs. He also emulated his old man with a wonderful performance the following round helping build an 114-run fifth wicket partnership in a relatively bowling friendly track. Rahul Dravid has been unable to attend the matches as he is currently on the road with the Delhi Daredevils as their mentor in the IPL.
