Rahul Dravid talked to our team owner and a groundsman in the same manner, that's the biggest thing I learnt from him: Sanju Samson
"When Rahul Dravid was with the Royals, we used to always observe him," Samson said.
Rahul Dravid is one of the unsung heroes of Indian cricket who silently did his job whenever the team needed him in crunch situations. Apart from being a great cricketer, Dravid is also known for his nature off the field. Many people from the cricketing fraternity in the past have spoken about the kind of gentleman he is.
Lately, Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson had gone on to say that the batting legend always spoke with the owner and the groundsman in a similar manner and that is one of the biggest lessons he has learned from him. Samson had spent some quality time with Dravid during their IPL tenure with Rajasthan and Delhi.
We used to always observe Rahul Dravid: Sanju Samson
“When Rahul Dravid was with the Royals, we used to always observe him. Our owner is Mr Manoj Badale. He is the most important guy in the team. He (Dravid) talks to Manoj Badale and the groundsman in the same manner. That was the biggest thing I learnt from him,” Samson told Gaurav Kapur on his show ‘Breakfast With Champions’.
“He genuinely does it. He doesn’t do it for show,” Samson added. Meanwhile, after serving the Royal Challengers Bangalore for three seasons from 2008 to 2010, Dravid was roped in by the Royals in 2011. He continued to be associated with them till 2013, which happened to be his final year in competitive cricket.
Dravid led them to the playoffs where their campaign ended in Qualifier 2 after going down against the eventual champions Mumbai Indians. He then went on to lead RR to the finals of the now-defunct CLT20 where they were yet again decimated by the same opposition.
The legendary cricketer is currently serving as the head coach of India and under his term, the Men in Blue are yet to taste defeat in any home series across all formats.
