Rahul Dravid the first Indian to score century in pink-ball cricket
In 2011, Dravid had played the English County Championship curtain-raiser, a match in which the pink ball was trialed, for MCC against Nottinghamshire.
Virat Kohli, on Saturday, registered his names in the history books by becoming the first Indian to score a Test century in pink-ball cricket. The India skipper achieved the memorable feat in the ongoing historic day-night Test against Bangladesh at the iconic Eden Gardens. Both India and Bangladesh are making their debuts in pink-ball Test through the ongoing game.
While Cheteshwar Pujara became the first Indian to score a Test fifty with the pink ball, Kohli went on to become the first to score a ton. Prior to Kohli, pace spearhead Ishant Sharma had also registered his name in the record books. The lanky pacer became the first bowler from India to take a five-wicket haul in a pink-ball Test.
But while Kohli is all over the news for creating history, very few know that the first Indian to score a century in a competitive match being played with the pink ball is not him. Former India captain Rahul Dravid holds the record for it, having scored a ton in a pink-ball match while playing for MCC way back in 2011.
In 2011, Dravid had played the English County Championship curtain-raiser, a match in which the pink ball was trialed, for MCC against Nottinghamshire. The match had been played in Abu Dhabi. The legendary batsman had failed to open his account in the first innings but came up with a century in the second innings. His 106 was the highest score of the match as the MCC won by a massive 174 runs.
Team India in command
Talking about the ongoing game at the Eden Gardens, India have taken full command of the match. The hosts need just four wickets more to wrap up the game inside three days. Bangladesh, who were all out for just 106 in the first innings, finished day two on 152 for 6, still trailing India’s first innings total by 89 runs.
Team India will next play West Indies in a three-match T20I series and three-match ODI series. The series will start from 6th of December. Virat Kohli, who missed Bangladesh T20I series, is all set to lead both the squads.
