Rahul Dravid wasn’t as gifted as Sachin Tendulkar but outdid him at times: Ramiz Raja

Rahul Dravid was one of those cricketers who gained immense respect during the times he played the game. The Indian legend was always admired for his good behaviour on and off the field. He was a man, who was down-to-earth and never spewed venom on his opponents. Dravid, who is also a current NCA head, garnered laurels even after he retired from this game.

The veteran made his choice of preparing the next generation of cricketers after his retirement. He was the coach of the under-19 team and India A sides. He was also there when Prithvi Shaw’s India won the U19 World Cup in New Zealand in 2018. Last year he was appointed as the head of NCA. His admirers are not just from India but from all over the cricketing world.

Rahul Dravid was an extremely good batsman, says Ramiz

During an exclusive interview on Sportskeeda, former Pakistan skipper Ramiz Raza praised Dravid and also spoke on the comparisons between him and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. 

“Maybe Rahul Dravid wasn’t as gifted as Sachin Tendulkar but to survive and compete with a great cricketer takes a lot of you. You know you’ve tried your best which is still not good enough to be the best batsman in the team and that can put you down,” he said.

He, however, appreciated the Wall of Indian cricket for always being a good batsman even on difficult wickets to bat on. “But credit to Rahul Dravid, for at times outdoing Sachin Tendulkar. He was an extremely good batsman on a tough pitch because his defense was rock solid. And he had a great attitude as well at that pivotal No. 3 position and keeping as well,” he believed.

The ace commentator also mentioned that the champion batsman never let the team down whenever his side needed him. “You’d always respect Rahul Dravid. The greatness of a player is judged in the dressing room. If the team feels he will not let them down in a tough situation, for a gritty 30 or a 50, that’s what matters,” he added.

The Wall, as Dravid has been fondly called since the time he used to play, will always remain among the list of greatest cricketers of all time.
