Rahul Dravid will do a remarkable job as India's head coach: Sourav Ganguly
Ganguly reckons Dravid’s "meticulous and professional" attitude will help him become a successful coach of the national team.
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has high hopes from his former teammate Rahul Dravid to thrive in his role of Team India’s head coach. Dravid replaced the outgoing head coach Ravi Shastri in November last year and under him, the side has done pretty well across formats barring that forgettable tour of South Africa. Meanwhile, Ganguly reckons Dravid’s “meticulous and professional” attitude will help him become a successful coach of the national team.
It must be noted that Ganguly and Dravid, who made their Test debut in the same match, have played a lot of cricket together and are known to share a great bond. With Ganguly being the BCCI chief, he was instrumental in getting Dravid on board following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup last year.
Rahul Dravid is intense, meticulous, and professional: Sourav Ganguly
“He (Dravid) is as intense, as meticulous, and as professional as he was during his playing days,” the former India captain said on the sidelines of a promotional event on Saturday. “The only difference is that now he does not have to bat at No. 3 for India which I feel was harder since he had to face the best bowlers of the world which he also did exceptionally well for a long period of time,” he added.
Notably, Dravid has done a commendable job as the coach of India Under-19 and India A teams. He’s even credited for unearthing gems like Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan. Owing to the same, Ganguly has high expectations from the batting legend.
“As a coach also he (Dravid) will do a remarkable job as he is honest and he has the talent. He will make mistakes as everybody does but as long as you try doing the right things you will achieve success more than other,” opined the southpaw.
Meanwhile, Ganguly refused to compare Dravid with his predecessor Shastri, saying the two are different personalities. “They are different people with different personalities. One is at you all the time which is his strength while the other will quietly do his job in spite of being one of the greatest of all time,” Ganguly said.
