The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) CEO, Mr. Rahul Johri, recently confirmed the news about the Indian team visiting South Africa this year. Earlier, it was almost certain that the men in blue will have a full tour in South Africa later this year with Tests, ODIs, and T20Is in the frame. However, after the recent developments, there were a few concerns and dark clouds hovering over the proposed tour of the Indian team.

The BCCI had recently revealed the upcoming grand home season of limited overs cricket in India. As per that report, the BCCI had also shortlisted the venues and almost finalized the time frames for the same. The Indian team is set to play as many as 23 international home games in the upcoming 2017-18 season.

Team India will host Australia for a limited overs series. They had earlier hosted the Aussies for the four match Test series earlier this year. Also, they will play the reverse fixture of the ongoing India’s tour of Sri Lanka. In addition to these, the Indian team is set to host New Zealand for limited overs series as well. Due to this, there were concerns rising over the South Africa tour.

However, as per the recent reports in the Times of India, BCCI CEO Rahul Johri said that the tour is certainly on. The dates might change a little but a full tour will continue to be on the cards for team India. “The South Africa tour is on. There is some back and forth on the dates, but it will be a full tour and that has been locked in,” quoted Rahul Johri.

The grand home season

It will be interesting to see where the Indian team stands after the conclusion of this home season. Last year, they had a similar grand home season that saw them propel to the top of the Test rankings. Now, they have a good chance to replicate it in the limited overs too.
