Rajasthan Royals and Catapult Sports partnership innovates on player performance metrics

The Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals became the first IPL franchise to partner with Catapult Sports and innovate on player performance metrics. Catapult Sports, the global leader in elite athlete analytics, helped the Rajasthan Royals meet their objective to enhance the franchise’s innovation credentials and explore new opportunities to monitor fitness levels of its team to improve on the team’s performance.

Catapult Sports has provided analytical solutions to teams all around the world for over ten years; using tracking devices worn by athletes to optimize performance, mitigate injury risk and support rehabilitation.

A bid to improve and monitor player’s fitness

Speaking about how Catapult is helpful for the players, John Gloster, Head Physiotherapist for Rajasthan Royals said, “It’s an amazing communication tool that helps us to connect better with the player. We are monitoring total distance covered, maximum and average speeds, player loading parameters and times and distances spent in certain speed bands allowing me to better understand both fitness levels and injury prediction for the player.

The data collected gives us a baseline and accordingly analyse and prepare, train and recover that player appropriately for the next match.” With this partnership, the players in the squad have been given with tracking units to be used during training and matches.
