The Royal Challengers Bangalore donned the green jersey against Rajasthan Royals in Bangalore in their third game of the season. They did the same last year too, and the year before that too. RCB wears the green jersey for one game every year to send across a message for environmental conversation. The franchise has been continuing this tradition since 2011 to promote their “Go Green” initiative.
This season, one more franchise will be seen donning a different-coloured jersey for a social cause. The Rajasthan Royals will be seen donning new colours in their game against Chennai Super Kings on May 11. As a part of its ‘Cancer Out’ campaign, the Royals will wear a new jersey to raise awareness about cancer detection. While the new colour is still not known, pink is what the news has speculated.
10 screening centres will educate people on cancer awareness
On Wednesday, the franchise joined hands with Tata Trusts to launch a state-wide ‘Cancer Out’ campaign. The campaign will be run with the support of the Government of Rajasthan, National Cancer Grid, Indian Cancer Society and Indian Dental Association in the state. The screening, which will show the importance of early cancer detection, will be shown at ten different places.
“It is an initiative that all must support. It is for a noble cause and we are hoping to get a good response,” Rajasthan Royals’ executive chairman, Ranjit Barthakur, told Sportstar.
A lot of people ignore the signals their bodies give out related to cancer, which leads to the disease spreading in the body and reaching the stages that are difficult to treat and involve complications. Outside of the IPL context too, there are several campaigns across the world which are trying to spread awareness about the deadly health condition.
Currently, the Rajasthan Royals ranked fifth on the points table, with 2 wins from 3 games. After missing out the tournament for two years, the franchise will be eager to put up impressive performances for their fans who had to do without them in 2016 and 2017.
