Prior to the start of the encounter between the Delhi Daredevils and the Rising Pune Supergiants, Rajat Bhatia suggested that the MS Dhoni led side would bounce back. That said, on the night against the Daredevils, the senior members of the Supergiants came to the fore as they secured a morale-boosting the 7-wicket win over the Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla.
“They kept losing wickets, two-three run-outs here and there and suddenly they were on the backfoot,” Bhatia told the media after Supergiants managed to post their third win of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016. “I think they were 20 runs short, that’s what it looked like from the way they were going,” he added.
“I’ve played here (for) so many years and I know the wicket looked really good. Once we finished their innings, we thought that if we play sensibly, we will get the target comfortably. And that’s what happened,” a contented Bhatia explained.
Bhatia also added that the Pune bowlers finally executed the plans that were given to them. The 36-year old also lauded the importance of the newcomers George Bailey and Usman Khawaja and hailed their impact on the game.
“It’s Twenty20 and you never know. That’s what happened with Mumbai Indians (in 2015), and it can happen (for us). The points table can change quickly and we just have to take it one game at a time, keep the focus on that game rather than thinking of the next one,” said the 36-year-old who impressed with figures of 2 for 22.
“Usman and (Geroge) Bailey both know what they have to do. It’s not the first time they are playing a T20 game. (Usman) is a guy who is playing for his country, has just played in the World T20 and is a class batsman. He played his role, that was the most important thing,” Bhatia concluded.
