Rajiv Shukla set to be unanimously elected as BCCI vice-president

Former Rajya Sabha MP Rajiv Shukla is all set to have another stint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as he is set to become the vice-president of the board. The decision to appoint the veteran administrator and politician as the board vice-president was taken unanimously by the members of the board.

Shukla is no stranger to working as a administrator for the Indian cricket board. Previously, he had served as BCCI’s vice-president during N Srinivasan‘s regime. He was also a chairman of the IPL Governing Council (GC) and served as the manager of the Indian team too. Shukla served as secretary for Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association too.

According to a report in the Times Now, his name has been proposed by DDCA president Rohan Jaitley and seconded by Uttarakhand’s Mahim Verma, who had vacated the post earlier this year. Once Verma had vacated the post of BCCI vice-presidency, Shukla’s reinstatement was always on the cards.

The report further claimed that Shukla didn’t need to go for a cooling-off period as IPL chairmanship isn’t considered as a tenure for an office-bearer. He will be officially elected during BCCI’s Annual General Meeting in Ahmedabad on December 24.

Brijesh Patel re-elected

In another development, former India player Brijesh Patel is set to continue as the chairman of the IPL GC. Along with him, Khairul Majumdar has been re-elected in the IPL GC too. Thursday was the deadline of submitting nominations for two GC posts, ahead of the BCCI’s upcoming AGM. Both Patel and Majumdar were the only ones to have applied for the two posts.

“At this time, none of the units want any election. It was always going to be unanimous choices. Patel’s re-election was proposed by TNCA top boss RS Ramaswamy and Kerala’s Sreejith Nair seconded his name,” a senior official of a state unit was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, the focus will be on to resume cricket in the country when the BCCI AGM takes place this year. The BCCI has already announced the delayed domestic season will be a curtailed one. While the Ranji Trophy is unlikely to take place this year, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be played from January 10 to 31. There has been no high profile cricket in the country since March due to the pandemic.
